Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil - SOLD OUT!
Hydrogenated vegetable oil can be used to thicken just about any oil to butter or salve consistency. It is the key ingredient in Lavender and Chamomile butters and Matcha Green Tea butter - all expensive, sophisticated butters that you can now make on your own! It is an easy to use powder at room temperature that melts at 68 degrees Celsius. Using 15-20% of thickener with the oil of your choice will produce a lovely butter. The key to a smooth result is to make sure that you completely melt the oil/thickener combo and then monitor the blend with constant stirring through the cool down process. |

BTMS-50
BTMS-50 (Behentrimonium Methosulfate (and) Cetearyl Alcohol (and) Butylene Glycol) is a quaternary conditioning agent and cationic emulsifier from Croda, derived from natural rapeseed oil. It is used to form both elegant cationic emulsions and excellent detangling hair conditioners. It really allows formulators to produce skin creams and lotions that are soft and powdery and hair treatments that are truly silky. It is also capable of emulsifying silicones such as dimethicone and cyclomethicone, which can often be difficult. BTMS-50 can be used as a co-emulsifier with emulsifying wax, adding its conditioning properties to your favourite cream or butter formula. Croda suggests that it can be used in both rinse-off and leave-on conditioners, detanglers, creams and lotions, silicone emulsions, and shaving products. Its recommended usage rate in skin care products is 1-5% and in hair care products from 1-8%. |

Emulsifying Wax or Stearic Acid
Emulsifying wax emulsifies the ingredients in a cream product, preventing it from separating into it's oil and water parts. It is commonly used in hair conditioners, creams, lotions and 'butters'. This is an extrememly easy product to use, and a great place to start when making your own products. Depending on the use of other emulsifiers and stabilizers, E-Wax can be used from 4-15% of your total formulation. Requires heating to incorporate into solution.

C14-16 olefin sulfonate
This vegetable oil derived surfactant lends itself to a variety of detergent and personal care applications such as hand soap, shampoo, bubble bath, shower gel, and even general household cleansers. Epsom and Fine Sea Salts
Epsom salts are wonderful for adding to the bath or to a foot soak. They are thought to detoxify the skin and relieve pain. They also add sparkle to your bath salt creations.
Sea salt is also a great addition to the bath. The fineness of this salt allows any colour you may add to appear better dispersed. For a relaxing home bath, add a few drops of your favourite essential oil to salts before adding to the water. Not only divine, but economical as well! |

Liquid Germall Plus
This is a preservative from ISP that contains propylene glycol, diazolidinyl urea,
and Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate. The ISP website indicates that liquid germall plus provides for complete, broad spectrum preservation against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, yeast,
and mold. It is compatible with most cosmetic raw materials, and its recommended use levels are between 0.1-0.5% in most formulations. Always add liquid germall plus at 50°C or below to maintain activity. PhytoAromatics recommends that all finished products undergo microbiology testing to assure final formulation preservative efficacy.

Methylparaben
Methylparaben is a white, free-flowing broad spectrum preservative used in food, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics. It is primarily used as a mold inhibitor. It is easily dispersible in water, oil, propylene glycol or glycerin, making it very easy to formulate with. It is a very effective preservative with a long track record (in use more than 50 years) in many types of cosmetic formulations such as shampoo, skin cream, lotion, powder applications and personal lubricants. Recommended usage levels are 0.1% to 0.25%.
Concerned about irritation or health risks? There is NO evidence that any cosmetics containing parabens pose a health risk. This is because of both the low concentrations used, as well as the fact that parabens are easily broken down by esterases (enzymes) within keratinocytes (the cells which make up the outer layer of the skin), and therefore cannot accumulate on the skin. It is true for parabens (as for everything else), that they can cause skin irritation and contact dermatitis in individuals with allergies to parabens. However, only a tiny percentage of the general population is allergic to parabens. PhytoAromatics recommends that all finished products undergo microbiology testing to assure final formulation preservative efficacy. |

Aloe Powder
Freeze dried 200X aloe vera powder solves the main problems of using aloe vera juice or gel. Juice or gel contains water, which means it has both a limited shelf life, and must contain a preservative. By reconstituting your own aloe with distilled water, you can make sure you only have what you need on hand. It also takes up much less space. 25 g will reconstitute to make 5 kg of liquid aloe! See our specials page for great prices this month.

Moisturizing Bath Soak
This is a bit of a twist on the plain old 'Bath Salt'. These are still easy and fun gifts to make, but have a little extra flare to them. The great thing about a project like this is that it really allows for a lot of creativity in terms of packaging. This could easily be an afternoon activity with your kids!
B. Take about a cup of the mix and transfer to another bowl. This is where you will add a few drops of colour or scent or both. Mix these wet ingredients into your secondary bowl well - usually easiest with your hands - and then add this to your main bowl. Mix well. Don't have the colour or scent strength desired? Repeat step B until you do! Then pour salts into glass jars. I like to add some dried flowers to the top of the salts before capping, but feel free to experiment. There are many ways to decorate your jars, but a cute way is to tie a circular piece of fabric over the lid with some ribbon. It's easy to make labels with a printer and some labels from your local office supply store, and voila! You have great gifts that you know have been made well and with love. We assume no liability for for the outcome of any project. Users that attempt to make these recipes do so at their own risk. We encourage users to perform their own testing to ensure final products meet necessary specifications for use. Green Tea Massage
This makes a wonderful facial treatment for mature skin, or an added bonus to a regular body massage. The only drawback to this wonderful project is that it takes quite awhile to make. But the results are well worth it!

This is a great facial cleanser, utilizing the skin purifying effects of panax ginseng. It's also easy to make and lends itself to experimentation to make it your own. Use this on a cotton ball to clean your face, and rinse with tepid water.
