Extraction method: steam distillation

Peppermint Essential Oil

Peppermint Essential Oil
Batch specific information:
Botanical name: Mentha Piperata
Plant part used: leaves and flowers
Extraction method: steam distillation
Origin: USA
Colour: pale-yellow
Consistency: thin
Note: middle to top

Common uses:
ROOM FRAGRANCE: Inhalation of peppermint oil as a room fragrance has been noted to reduce feelings of fatigue. The oil used as a room fragrance may help relieve mild headaches especially if caused by mental fatigue, or as the result of colds and flu.
BATHS: A drop or two may be added to the bath as a mental stimulant or to temporarily relieve skin irritation due to hives, poison ivy, or poison oak.
MASSAGE: Peppermint oil should be used greatly diluted for massage as it can be very aggressive to the skin. It is not recommended for full-body massage, but is of use in small areas. It is very important to keep peppermint oil away from the eyes and the mucous membranes. A case report in 2002 in the Clinical Journal of Pain (Davies, et al) showed that topical application of oil to areas of post-herpetic neuralgia significantly decreased patient pain.
TENSION HEADACHE: Research has shown that peppermint applied to the forehead and temples compares favorably with acetaminophen (a commonly used over the counter medication) in terms of its ability to reduce headache symptoms. Add one drop to a bowl of cool water. Wet a facecloth in this water, wring it out well, and then carefully place on the forehead. It is very important to keep peppermint oil away from the eyes while you are doing this, so wring the cloth out very well.
Blends well with: eucalyptus, lavender, and citrus oils.

Sweet Orange Essential Oil

Sweet Orange Essential Oil
Batch specific information:
Botanical name: Citrus sinensis
Plant part used: rind
Origin: USA
Colour: pale-yellow to amber liquid
Consistency: thin
Note: top

Suggested uses:
ROOM FRAGRANCE: The best way to use orange oil is as a room or linen spray, or in a diffuser. Orange is a wonderful deodorizer and brightens up the ambience of any room. It also blends well with any of the spice oils to add an extra sense of warmth and reception. To make your own room spray, add 25 drops of sweet orange essential oil to ¼ cup water, plus ¼ cup vodka. Mix and spray!
Recent literature suggests that orange oil has a calming effect on the nervous system. For example, one study determined that diffused orange oil in a dentist’s office reduced stress and anxiety in patients (Physiol Behav. 2005 Sep 15;86:92-5). Another recent article suggests that orange oil may have anti-fungal properties (ie, helps to get rid of mold!) (Microbiol Res. 2006 Jul 24).

Sweet orange blends well with: Bergamot, Cedarwood, Clary Sage, Neroli, Cinnamon, Sandalwood, Lavender and Geranium.
